Bird Club

It’s the beginning of July, and that can only mean that the next surprise instalment of Ed’s Birds Club is swooping onto the TOFT Subscriptions website. If you’ve been a member of one of our subscription services for a while, you’ll know that it’s not only great for acquiring new and exclusive TOFT projects, but also a great opportunity to get your hands on some brand new TOFT yarn. Well, this instalment is a perfect example as we release not only an exclusive bird but also a brand new colour to the TOFT coloured yarn spectrum.

Pedro the Wine Throated Hummingbird is the long-awaited next instalment of birds club, following up the popular and much loved Azula the Indian Roller Bird. For this brand-new design creative director, Kerry Lord has employed the help of TOFT’s newest yarn, Magenta, to recreate the Wine Throated Hummingbird’s bright and vibrant plumage. Kerry has also enlisted a new crochet technique in order to mimic the texture of the Hummingbirds feathered throat. The Gorget (armour that protects the throat) is created by working different height stitches into a series of chains. This technique along with various colour changes makes Pedro a level three, but also makes him very satisfying to complete! If you get stuck with Pedro at any time, the TOFTuk.com website has plenty of tutorial videos to help you get back on track to completing your Pedro.

With this newest Birds Club instalment, you’ll find all the yarn you’ll need to create Pedro, plus a collectable postcard pattern for you to work from. We’ll also upload a PDF copy of the pattern to your MyTOFT area, should you ever lose your collectable postcard. The DK yarn inside this quarters edition of birds club includes 25g Cream, 25g Camel, 25g Mushroom, 25g Green, and 25g Magenta. Our TOFT DK yarn is, as always, perfect for making TOFT projects due to its long term durability and softness. Spun and dyed in the north of England, we regularly check and work with our TOFT yarn to make sure that it’s of the best quality.
