TOFT are very proud to present a 15th Birthday collection, brought together by revisiting and perfecting our most iconic and favourite designs from the last decade and a half. These patterns helped shape TOFT into the company it is today, each one causing a twist and turn on our path to 2021. These patterns follow our journey from the very early ready-to-wear collections through to the first creation of Edward’s Menagerie and to a brand new pattern that celebrates this year and the future.
TOFT’s Macha Bag is one of our beautifully classic and iconic designs - you will have first seen this design in 2007.
“Originally our best-selling ‘knit to order’ product, once released as a kit, the ‘Bulb Bag’ put TOFT on the map with all those that could already knit in a way that all the smaller more simple accessories did not. An iconic bold design that took advantage of the one thing most knitters dreaded when working with wool – shrinking it in the wash! TOFT buttons were originally turned by one man in a shed in Warwickshire from the offcuts of recycled wood, and we are very happy to bring them back over 5 years after their retirement. Felted wool is incredibly strong while soft, and is hard wearing and waterproof. It’s a thrill to see your stitches transform in the washing machine, and TOFT became known as ‘the giant button’ company long before it was known for cute crocheted animals.”

Our pure wool yarns are versatile and can be used for most knitting and crochet patterns creating wonderful garments for adults and children, and a full range of accessories.

The knitting pattern is provided digitally in .pdf format. You can download this from a link that will appear in your MY TOFT area and at the bottom of your order confirmation email, which you can save or print at your own convenience.
YOU WILL NEED: To complete TOFT’s Macha Bag pattern you will need a few added extras, including a 15mm circular knitting needle, stitch marker, TOFT wooden button and a wool needle. Go to our recommended section below to get direct links to these products.
MEASUREMENTS: When finished and felted the bag measures approximately 40cm in diameter across the based and 52cm in total depth including handle.
SKILL LEVEL 2: This pattern is suitable for enthusiastic beginners or those who have done knitting before.
IT WILL TAKE: Approx. 10-15 hrs knit time.
CARE: Approach the felting process gently, know that you can always do it a little bit more until you get it perfect. Use non-bio detergent when felting and please remember that everyones washing machine is different. Do not hot wash to begin with, take care with this process. TOFT cannot take any responsibility for over-felted items.
