We are excited to share this quarter’s Guest Yarn: Daughter of a Shepherd.

Championing small scale British wool producers, Daughter of a Shepherd share our commitment to producing high quality 100% British Wool. Embodying the philosophy that ‘wool is in the blood’, the Daughter of a Shepherd range is the vision of Rachel Atkinson featuring fleeces from the flock of Hebridean sheep that her father shepherds in North Yorkshire.

Their natural, raw fibres embrace the diversity of fleeces and breeds that they include in their yarns, and its signature aroma of the lamb filled British fields where it is sourced, scoured and spun connects you further to its humble origins.

“You may very occasionally find a small trace of grass or other vegetable matter spun into plies. Treasure it and think of the land on which the sheep are raised”
– Rachel Atkinson

We also have the Daughter of a Shepherd Volume 1: Beginnings book at TOFT HQ and online. This stunning book celebrates Daughter of a Shepherd yarns, featuring a collection of 10 knitting and crochet patterns for both men and women accompanied by thoughtful essays exploring our relationship with sheep and their wool, background stories and beautiful photography of the flock at home on Escrick Park Estate.
