Estella the Clockwork Nightingale

£54.00
Estella means ‘star’, and this show-stopping bird certainly wouldn’t look out of place on top of your Christmas tree! This bejewelled crochet bird project forms part of our Edward's Menagerie collection of amigurumi crochet toys designed by Kerry Lord. Originally seen in #edsadvent 2019, Estella the Clockwork Nightingale is a welcome addition to our permanent Christmas range here at TOFT.

Estella embodies the stunning clockwork nightingale from the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale ‘The Nightingale’. In the story, the Emperor of China comes to love the beautiful song of the nightingale. He is gifted a bejewelled clockwork nightingale so he can listen to the song day and night. He loves the golden bejewelled bird so much that eventually it breaks down. Shortly afterwards, the Emperor is taken deathly ill, and wishes only to hear his nightingale’s song again. The real nightingale learns of the Emperor’s condition and comes to the palace, where her song restores his health and allows the Emperor to live.
