Bessie the Hawksbill Sea Turtle first appeared in the menagerie as an instalment of TOFT's Conservationists crochet subscription, which is an excellent pattern for levelling up your crochet skills to create the distinctive overlapping, dappled cream-and-brown shell.
Hawksbill Sea Turtles are best known for their 'tortoiseshell', which has become a highly desired product used in jewellery and ornaments and has sadly cost millions of these sea turtles their lives. Did you know that the hawksbill is the only species of sea turtle that has a diet consisting mainly of sponges, and females return to the same nesting grounds where they were born to lay their eggs.
TOFT’s Edward’s Menagerie collection is a series of crochet amigurumi toys designed by Kerry Lord. This crochet animal kit contains TOFT’s quality pure wool yarn and an easy-to-follow downloadable pattern. There are video links for all the crochet stitches and techniques used in the pattern to get you started and help you complete your toy. Share your progress with the TOFT community on Instagram @toft_uk using the #edsanimals hashtag.
